Ali Curwin sees lacrosse games at higher level
A senior midfielder who led the Panthers to back-to-back Section V Class A championships and within a minute of this year's state crown, Curwin is the All-Greater Rochester Player of the Year.The 18-year-old and Pittsford Sutherland's Scholar-Athlete of the Year had 70 goals, 38 assists and 91 groundballs for a 21-1 squad that led the state title game until 58 seconds remained, then lost in overtime, 11-10. Pittsford relied on Curwin to be a playmaker at times and a scorer at others.
When she was younger, she was more of a creator. But she finished in big moments as a senior, scoring the winning goal on a pass from fellow senior Steph Spoto in the sectional title game. In the state championship, after Pittsford saw its 8-6 lead over Northport turn into a 10-8 deficit in overtime, Curwin scored before Devon Collins' goal tied it. But the Panthers lost 11-10.

Ali fell in love with lacrosse in junior high. "When I was in seventh grade my basketball coach told me I was a natural point guard because I see the floor well," said Curwin, who started for Sutherland's always-tough hoop team throughout high school.

Northeast1. Jamesville-DeWitt (N.Y.), 22-0
Notes: New York, New York. It was a solid but complicated year for the Northeast, with the Empire State once again dominating this rankings list. Jamesville-DeWitt kept a steady hand all season, burning through their Upstate schedule before wrapping of 2011 with their second consecutive Class B title. Deerfield finished undefeated in their New England West section. Farmingdale maybe the surprise of the North, winning the Class A title after an impressive run through the playoffs.
Midwest1. Dublin Jerome (Ohio),19-1
Notes: It was a competitive run in the Midwest, but Dublin Jerome survived the gauntlet win the state Division II title and finish 19-1. Hudson finished the surprise team of the season, defeating Worthington Kilbourne convincingly in the state Division I championship game. Michigan state champs Brother Rice, Illinois champs New Trier and Indiana titleholders Carmel all make the final rankings.
Southeast1. Lake Highland Prep (Fla.), 20-1 States: North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Georgia, Mississippi, Alabama, Florida, Louisiana, Arkansas, Texas, Oklahoma
Notes : Most of the Southeast Region wrapped up in May so not too much fluctuation here. Lake Highland Prep finishes the season No. 1 after their upset win over Saint Andrew's in the Florida title game. Coppell earns the No. 3 spot as the Texas state champs. Wilton (Ga.) is the only new team in the final top 10 after a 2011 title victory.
West1. Regis Jesuit (Colo.), 18-1
