Route 422: 'How do we fix it?
&Quot; OK, next question. After you have spent my hard earned $$s on a rail system, and buying back all the "stations" that are now privately held along the way, where do you expect patrons to park? Have you tried to get a parking place in Phoenixville lately? OR will the next Government Control plan to be to tax for buses to pick everyone up to take them to the train? Think about it. Not very many folks work in Phila. anymore anyway. Will your expensive train stop in K of P and Great Valley? Then how do you get from the train to your office? I want to see the details BEFORE I spend any money guys. Stop being so stupid. There is a reason the trains failed in the first place and those reasons are just as valid now. " " Tolls on 422 is just more nonsense about politicians using taxation as an easy fix to their problems... and it seems clear that this is going to get rammed down our throat regardless of if we want it or not. An overwhelmingly large majority of highways in this country are NOT tolled, yet they seem to be plugging along just fine. Perhaps cutting fat and waste should be a higher priority than taking more money from the citizens. First off, do you really think this money will be spent wisely and efficiently? There are plenty reasons to believe that it will not... not the least of which is that "government" and "wise and efficient" almost never go together. Now imagine the fact that so many jurisdictions will have their hands in this project. It just reeks of disaster. Think about how much money has been wasted just TALKING about this process so far (not to mention the tax dollars spent on the publicity campaign and website that are designed to convince YOU that you need to pay more to get more). One could hazard a guess that a more efficient organization could probably have fixed a decently sized section of 422 already with that money. Secondly, most tolls were first enacted as "temporary" (in order to get enough approval to have them passed, I'm sure). They are put in place to fund the construction or renovation of the highway... then they of course never go away. Once the government has an income source, it rarely gives it up. So the rail can be built, the road can be fixed, and the money will find a way to be spent ongoing into forever. And how long do you think it will be before this toll goes up? Third, imagine the cost of the infrastructure...North Coventry Township - News
