Stock driver McPherson's career starting to take off
-->Corey McPherson has always been fast. But once he got to the front of the pack, or near the front, that`s when things got interesting.
"I think one of the biggest problems I had was when I got to the front (was) I would push too hard," McPherson said. "I would get there and then I would push harder. I know the first two nights of this season, when I was in position to win, I just pushed too hard. I am trying to work on that now. Once I get the lead, I need to be smooth and consistent, without pushing like crazy."
McPherson broke through June 3, winning a Sportsman Stock race — the first win of his career. Now, he wants more.
"To be honest, when that race first started, I was having trouble driving the car," McPherson said. "We had made some changes to it and I was really having trouble. There were a lot of cautions in the race and I just started making my way through the field until I was in front. I really did feel like I had been good on the starts and the car was coming in as the race went on.
"It really didn`t sink in until afterward that I had won the race. During the race, I guess, once I passed Joe Kelley I knew that I was pretty fast that night. The track that night was really slick and we made the car really tight. I usually go for a much looser car and the next week, we kept it exactly the same and it was terrible. The track was completely different, and I had a car setup for the week before."
McPherson`s racing career did not begin with Stocks. It started in Motocross where aggression is rewarded, and necessary. McPherson is third in points, nine behind leader A.J. Flick and seven behind Mike Miller.
"I raced motocross and I think that it is such an aggressive sport, much more so than stock cars," McPherson said. "I thought I had to push it so hard to get to the front, and once there, keep pushing like crazy. That`s how I felt."
After last week's Firecracker 100, Scott Bloomquist said that the track conditions made it necessary for a driver to be careful on the throttle, and that he probably used a quarter of his throttle the whole race. That is something that comes with experience and something that McPherson seems to now be aware.
"If you are not getting the tire to the ground, you are not going to go anywhere, and that is something I have learned," McPherson said. "Joe Kelley uses a crate motor and he does pretty well with it. I think all of the cars at Lernerville are fairly equal. My motor is just a Chevy 350, it`s not a spectacular motor, but it is reliable now.

Like the title says, ive got a 350cu HO deluxe engine im trying to sell. Same engine that can be seen in a jegs catalog or online. It has 330hp and 380tq. The Deluxe part of the engine means it has flexplate, intake, carb, distributor, plugs and wires and air cleaner with the motor. Motor is UNUSED!!
