Boston tech company opens first store at Patriot Place

After nearly 20 years teaching other firms how to integrate Apple products into their workspaces, Tech Superpowers is getting into the retail business.

The Boston-based tech consulting company celebrates the grand opening of its first retail store Saturday at Patriot Place in Foxboro, where it will sell Apple products and third-party accessories and provide consulting services on home audio and video installations.

The store will capitalize on the increasing popularity of using iPhones and iPads to connect to home theater and audio systems, president and founder Michael Oh said.

“The audio-visual world really has become much more computer-centric,” Oh said.

Rockland-based Advanced Communication Technologies is partnering with Tech Superpowers as the home installation arm of the business. Founded in 2002, the company specializes in the design and installation of high-end home theater systems, ranging in scope from a few thousand dollars to six-digit projects.

The Foxboro store will sell systems from Savant Systems LLC, an Osterville company that designs residential and commercial entertainment and communication packages. Basic systems will start around $3,000, featuring controls that enable customers to control their home theater, audio and security systems from iPhones and iPads.

Third-party accessories are another key product line. Tech Superpowers sells a broad variety of items including cases, chargers and accessories such as a wireless shoe-mounted pedometer that transmits data to a runner’s iPhone. The strategy is to provide more accessories than Apple stores currently provide, as new products such as the iPad have taken up more store space.

The 3,000-square-foot Foxboro store also will provide consulting and troubleshooting of Apple products.

“We really feel there’s a lot in terms of services that Apple stores don’t have the ability to do very well,” Oh said. “If you’re the CEO of a company and you have a Mac that has a problem, you don’t want to be going to the Genius bar and waiting in line with everybody else.”

Tech Superpowers also will sell auto entertainment systems, showing off the possibilities with Oh’s own Lexus concept car tricked out with a dashboard-mounted iPad and twin 32-inch backseat video screens.

Tech Superpowers’ grand opening celebration is scheduled for 5 p.m. Saturday, featuring a giveaway of 50 prize items.

This subwoofer connects by those open end wires you clamp on, so how do I connect it to my computer if my computer only has speaker jack inputs.

pretty much. the pc audio card does not have near enough power to run any sub. just get an older, (70s or 80s) stand alone stereo that worked with component systems, or find a newer one, (but you usually have to buy it from someone or somewhere, like ebay) and get a rca to mini-plug (headphone jack) cable. now you can run as many speakers as you want. i have 1500 watts with 8 surround speakers and 2 15inch subs. makes gaming a whole new experiance.
