Charity needs new volunteers
The Nelson branch of charitable organisation Save the Children New Zealand is under threat from closure if new members cannot be found, head office says.
The branch has been operating in Nelson since 1962 and now has only five members.
"It needs fresh blood if it is to continue being operational in the region," acting branch president Isabelle Jones said.
She said the new volunteers willing to offer a few hours of their time each month could make the difference to whether the Nelson branch remains alive or not.
"Save the Children has had a presence in Nelson for almost 50 years and in that time has raised thousands of dollars each year for programmes that benefit children, around the world and in New Zealand," Mrs Jones said.
She said the branch needed someone to help co-ordinate activities and recruit new volunteers.
To contact the Nelson branch, telephone Amy Hill at 035476542, email amehill@xtra.co.nz or visit the website savethechildren.org.nz.
