Fuss-free Beaumont gym muscles up for new location

Workout junkies at CrossFit Beaumont might think slimmer is better, but for the building itself, getting bigger's not a bad thing.

"We outgrew our old facility, and so we just have to move to an upgraded place with more space," said head trainer Neal Riley .

The fitness center, home to the CrossFit strength and conditioning program, will move from its current spot on Eastex Freeway to a new place on the corner of Laurel Avenue and Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway.

The Eastex location will be open in the meantime until the new gym opens at 1458 South St., Riley said.

Trainers at CrossFit teach a strength and conditioning program that combines gymnastics, power lifting, cardiovascular training and weight lifting.

"It's fun and our members love it," Riley said. "They just get bored with the old gym routine."

CrossFit people aren't kidding when they say they're different - the fitness center has no TVs, no mirrors, no smoothie stand and no weight machines.

"We sure as hell don't use machines," the website boasts.

"Those things are for health clubs," Riley said. "We're a gym. People come here for an awesome workout. We're no-frills."

Expect to see the new location open in the next two weeks. Riley said people can catch a free class at CrossFit at 11 a.m. every Saturday.
