Birds of a Feather

For eons, women have tried to transfer the beauty of birds to themselves.

While feather adornment may be old as humanity, the most recent innovation can be credited to the influence of Native American Indians, rockers such as Steven Tyler and a surge of updated 1970s trends.

Feather hair extensions were first spotted in Boulder, Colo., according to FeatherLuxe consultant Sydney Forester. The trend then migrated across the West and south through Texas before coming to roost at your local salon. And it's flying off the shelves, no pun intended.

To get the feathered look, a bundle of five to 16 genuine rooster feathers are fastened near the base of the hair shaft using a method that doesn't require heat or glue. The feathers come in colors from neutral to neon and can be curled, flat-ironed or blow-dried.

Although edgy, they can be just as easily hidden. The effects range from beautiful to barbarous. Pure white feathers for the bride produce a pristine, "Swan Lake" look, but can turn "Mad Max" sci-fi futuristic in a moment when accompanied by other body art.

Forester, 22, travels nationally for Featherluxe extensions, and says her market consists of male and female clients from ages 6 to 60. She once had 25 "locks" of her own, which she left in place for eight months. "It's the easiest hair accessory I've ever had," she said. "It's different, something you haven't seen, and you can really change it up."

Lafayette attorney Melissa Caruso saw her first bundle at a Mardi Gras Ball in Plaquemine and couldn't resist. "I didn't want anything permanent, and Sydney said she could put the feathers on a clip for me," Caruso said. Aware that the look wouldn't be considered courtroom correct, Caruso says she loved the safety and convenience.

"I got so many compliments on it."

"Some of us take it as an art," said Forester, who also installs the extensions at Vieceli's Hair Salon.

But, she says, methods vary. You'll want to find someone who is certified, and you'll want to see examples of his or her work. "I've even seen feathers upside-down," she said. "Someone wasn't paying attention."

To add flair to your hair, here's what your plumage will cost you: Prices average about $25, including the feathers and application. Then there's the maintenance fee of about $10 for the follow-up procedure of "pulling up" the extensions. Feathers can be replaced for the same amount. Once worn, feathers cannot be exchanged or returned.

If we are claiming to be best and the brightest having high skills and inventing then it is EB1 and EB2 mostly. By law EB3 is mostly for people who have Bachelor degree and hardly any experience in their field to claim as EB2. It does not matter you are masters from Harvard but by law, if your job requires just a bachelor degree then you are doing basic work at lower management. Legally EB3 have no case if they claim to be best and the brightest inventors. All doctors get EB2 or EB1. All managers with advanced degrees get EB2. All Scientists and PhD holders get EB1 and EB2. So EB3 is mostly people who are low skilled programmers, people in professions doing lower line work or people who despite having higher degrees are doing jobs that do not need advanced skills to be the brightest folks immigrating in USA. There are some exceptions of people who are screwed by their lawyers and employers by forcing them in EB3. These people should fight with their lawyers and employers or change their jobs to EB2. EB3 do not have a strong legal case to fight for EB3 if they claim to be best and the brightest. It is very humiliating but you like it or not EB3 is grouped with EB3 Other Workers that are waiters, janitors, construction workers, Farm workers etc. To the guy who assured me that I am sinning and God will punish me: No, I don't think so. Fighting for the truth, and trying to fight for and protect my legal rights is not a sin. Speaking the truth is not a sin. I did not make EB1/EB2/EB3 categories. The government did. I did not screw people to have them apply in EB3, they should have known better. Do you really think that whatever frustrations poured down here by whomsoever will force USCIS to change mind or its operational procedures changed? If not then why are you screaming so intensively? If this is the level one can achieve after joining Standford then we should now starting to doubt about the real quality level of Standford. But do not worry we will not judge Standford based on your behaviour here. Now some of you will say you have masters degree and still are EB3. It does not matter if you have a undergraduate degree from IIT or Harvard and have MBA from Harvard. If your job needs only undergraduate degree your master degrees are useless. You are working in a wrong job and overqualified for your job. You should look for another job that needs your american masters degree. Some will say that their lawyer filed in EB3 even though they qualify for EB2.
