DOT Commissioner Campbell won't seek reappointment
DOVER — Department of Transportation Commissioner George Campbell will not seek reappointment.
According to a release from Gov. John Lynch's office, Campbell will transition to a private sector job by the end of the summer. Campbell's term was to end in December.
"George Campbell has been a tremendous leader at the Department of Transportation. Because of his leadership, we were able to secure funding to replace the Memorial Bridge in Portsmouth, and we will finish work on the Manchester Airport Access Road ahead of schedule," Gov. Lynch said. "The Department has been able to move forward on a number of important projects throughout George's term. I thank him for his service to the state and wish him the best of luck."
Campbell has served as transportation commissioner since May 2008.
"I have greatly appreciated the opportunity to serve Governor Lynch and the people of New Hampshire for the past three years," Commissioner Campbell said. "Working together, we have made great progress in improving our transportation infrastructure, and it is my hope that progress will continue."
In addition to the Memorial Bridge and Airport Access Road, Campbell has overseen and advanced several transportation initiatives, including the implementation of New England's first highway-speed electronic toll facility.
He also put forward an aggressive bridge rehabilitation and replacement program, increasing the Department's resurfacing program, significant capital improvements to the Turnpike System, and expediting the completion of the rebuilding of Interstate 93.
"It is been my honor to work with so many dedicated people at the New Hampshire Department of Transportation, who are truly extraordinary public servants and are committed to our mission of excellence in transportation," Campbell said.
Lynch said he will make a nomination to fill the remainder of Campbell's term as soon as possible.
